Michael Thompson

I was born in Canton, Ohio and made my way through Arizona to Redding California in 1976. I graduated from Enterprise High School in 1983. I also attend Shasta College. I have always loved this area and have stayed around to raise my children Nicholas and Tyler with the support of my wife Dianna.

I am a self taught artist, if you can call it that, I took art classes in high school and college but it was years later before I really defined a style that I enjoyed. Through the years I have only painted to satisfy a need within myself to express my feelings. In recent years with the encouragement of my wife and friends I have begun to share my art with the rest of the world with some nice successes. My works have received awards in art competions and are now in private collections as well. I have also been experimenting with selling my works on-line.

I love to create bright, bold paintings that encompass my feelings and emotions. The process is very energizing, the more I create the more I want to create. I am inspired by anything and everything around me, my family, the music I listen to, my dreams or the beauty of nature. No one paints a sunset like Mother Nature. I love to use different styles and techniques and textures to create something new. My style can change from painting to painting and day to day. I work mostly with acrylic but I enjoy using oils as well as watercolors. My favorite artists include Georgia O’Keefe, Jackson Pollock and Peter Max, though I find artists of every style and every era inspiring.

My personal belief is that art should inspire and hopefully bring a smile to the viewer. My works are very personal to me and I feel as though a piece of my soul is in each piece I create. I will always paint for my own fulfillment but I hope everyone can view them and find some meaning and enjoyment for themselves. Thanks for looking.
